York's condition is that of half man, half bio-mechanical creature. Although Cyborgs have an attached stigma of being human-hating and dogmatic, York is quite the opposite, as well as the others who were tested on at the Binode facilities where he acquired such a unique addition.

Experiment Undergone at Binode:

--
Binode Labs, circa 2020, grew and flourished in the changing, earthly times. What with the most advanced discoveries being made, the labs excelled in their department. Although this remains true, their reputation as a successful company only remained on a small patch of land that went unnoticed through the times that they should have been recognized. Their everchanging theories that led to small but exciting knowledge seldom deviated from the man-made island of New Samine. Despite their unsung success, Binode continued to marvel at the wonder of new scientific information. Their practices excelled for years by forming new curriculum for their interns and for local universities, among other new developments. They didn't spread as a lab throughout the neighboring countries, but they did become the pride of New Samine and would continue as so for years to come.
The dynamic of the labs changed entirely with the discovery of magic. This being a new area of interest, the staff at Binode took up the task of observing those versed with magical abilities. Of course, scientists at Binode revealed themselves to also have these special skills, that in itself induced anxiety for higher-ups in the facility. Around the world, Magical beings were being exalted above those who were non-magical, this was hardly something that Binode agreed with. Their next move was questionable and depleted New Samine's economy considerably, but with the discoveries and the riots occuring about the world, Binode released staff members who had magical abilities in order to regulate the fairness among other, non-magical members. As stated in a press conference given by the president of Binode, Max Hawethorn, this step was only by necessity as they felt was morally acceptable. It was an unwritten policy, merely understood by those who had more of a significance in Binode's company. But those unfortunate to have their abilities protested this 'policy', although none of their strikes could persuade Binode. Alas, they were let go, and that was that.
Only a select few who were revealed to have magic were allowed to stay on their team of scientists. Because of the controversy, Binode attempted to win back the hearts and minds of those they lived among by offering opportunities to non-magical humans to have enhancements given to their bodies. Of course, the description of the advertisement for their new experiments presented itself as merely another way of body modification. But Binode's reasons for it were much deeper than that.
Magic sent Binode officials into a spiral of doubt and confusion. This was intriguing, as the very mantra Binode was built on relied on one phrase; 'Doubt builds curiosity, and curiosity builds intelligence.'. With the recent loss of members, arguments of the benefits of being a super-human arose and began several discussions of alleged experimentation and observation of such inhuman qualities. This would provide more information on the elite magical beings, but the officials disagreed with Magic very much. The debates continued, and soon after much convincing, they agreed to have a new product developed and engineered in order to improve a non-magical human's way of life. These products would be called 'Nu-Alpha Products.'. In short, there was a production of a limited amount of prosthetic arms, legs, ears, eyes, hands, and feet that were developed specially to simulate the very essence of how beneficial it would be to have magical abilities. Unfortunately, because their understanding of how many abilities were across the grid, Binode's Nu-Alpha models had limited abilities that only delved into very basic 'super-powers' understood by previous media, and some coverage of magic recently.
Once the experiments were ready to be practiced, a group of non-magical humans was selected from the registry in which their names were recorded. York felt very lucky to be chosen for such an opportunity, although the appendage they selected for him -- an arm -- wasn't one that Binode had approved. The arm contained a unique power, one that an unnamed scientist had developed out of compassion for Magic. Once learing that the product hadn't been cleared by the officials, York grew wary but the doctor performing the surgery, who had also made the 'special arm', demanded the safeness of it. The doctor had also partially threatened York, considering his job at Binode was on the line and on the path to ending because of the arm. With that, York felt ashamed, and he complied to the doctor's demands.

*Dimension: Once a non-magical human from an isolated island, much like Australia is, in the midst of a sea. The climate there is rather rainy, slightly drab and macabre but the days that are sunny are the days that many are attracted to the island's festivities and various shops. Although the city is a cluster of concrete, apartments, and streets, when it is decorated in light and the colourful tents along the streets, it's truly a sight to see. The outer portions of the New Samine is forrested, most of it being similar to the Coastal Redwoods, or the densely forested areas of Washington as many of us can more familiarly relate to. The people there are very work-oriented, although with that, they focus on their families and neighborhoods tend to be tights. Districts were divided into six. Mudden, Clovar, Reynard, Huntington, The Clast, and Ivony. York and his family are specifically from Mudden District.

*Personality: York is a sarcastic, fun-loving, and intelligent man who, after the excitement and interruption of prison in his life, has since been trying to seek solitude and a place to fit in. As everyone never wants to be laughed at, talked about, or ridiculed, York is on a journey to find acceptance in a group who understands his plight and will share with him his happiness. He is somewhat shy in the face of unfamiliarity; usually keeping to himself until he feels like his presence is welcome. This is an insecurity of his, being left out. He spent most of his life feeling different than all the others and tended to feel like an outcast for much of his life, including up until now.
Although he can appear reserved and distant, York is a very easy man to talk to once with him one-on-one. In no way does he look intimidating, just rather cast-out, maybe lonesome in his appearance. But on the contrary, he is very eager to make friends and is also very outspoken once the time and trust is given to him.

*History:
York Hogarth was born in the Mudden District of his hometown. This being a lower-middle class area with only the modest section of people in the nation. It felt comfortable for the first 12 years he lived there, but once his father was offered a much better job, the family moved quickly into the Ivony District. It wasn't too wealthy of an area but it was still very privileged in comparison to Mudden. As York recounts, moving into this richer community was the beginning of all his rebellion at that time.
His parents believed him responsible enough to abstain from crime, despite Ivony having the highest crime rate between all six districts. York did end up falling into the wrong crowd at 14, moving slowly upward in the scale of crimes. From vandalism to muggings to thievery, all in the course of three years. His parents tried their best to reign him in but with little to no knowledge of how to handle a teenage son, he slipped through their fingers. Two people became very important in his life: Franny and Oliver Eberhart, two siblings who starved for attention and defiance. It thrilled York to be around them, knowing that each moment he spent with them, he'd get into some dasterdly mischief. But one day, the pranks went too far.
After escaping a boring party his parents so honestly encouraged him to stay at, York went immediately to the Eberhart home. With Oliver and Franny were two other boys, one named Allen and the other, Sable. What normally would have happened would be them stealing alcohol and cigarettes from some unknowing adult and that would be the end of it. But what Allen and Sable wanted to do was steal a car and go cruising, maybe get high. All of it seemed so exciting at the time that York, Oliver, nor Franny really thought twice. Despite not having known Sable and Allen for all that long, they decided; what was the worst that could happen?
For a couple hours, even after they stole the car, the night was steadily coming to an end and York decided he needed to return home. It appeared that this upset Allen and Sable, considering both the Eberhart children would follow suit. Demanding they stay, York and the other two grew quite suspicious, as they were being unnecessarily aggressive toward them for wanting to leave. Now convinced they had to go, the three teenagers began to walk away. (At this point, all five of them had set up 'camp' in a nearby forrest. It was a chilly night, but nothing too intolerable to have a small campfire.) The forest was eery, and something about it was even more unsettling. York began to grow anxious, trying to convince Oliver and Franny to walk faster, but something held the two back. Proposing they take the car from Allen and Sable, they all agreed, although York was reluctant, to go back and try to get the keys from the two boys. After a fight between Sable and Franny, Sable began to choke the girl. She died in the forest that night and after a long, painful trial, York was sentenced to prison as a young man for fifteen years, as well as Sable, Allen, and Oliver, for all appearing to be tools in the murder of Franny Eberhart.

Prison was a horrible, excruciating experience for him. The two other boys walked away with York but Sable was sentenced to life because of his role in the killing of Franny. Oliver and Allen, even York carried the guilt of the young girl's fate for the rest of their lives. Losing touch with the other two, York made his life about finding his tribe. Going to school to be an automechanic in prison, he exited and soon joined business with one of his closest friends that he made before his time on the train. Her name was Lilly, a hard-working, curvy woman who grew her business from the ground up and happily employed the ex-con. Through his experimental phase, York joined boat with Binode Labs to get his arm replaced with a bionic one and since then, has tried to harness and understand his abilities as a cyborg with inhuman abilities. Now he has boarded the train in hopes of being accepted as a very intelligent mechanic and unique person.

Summary:  After a horrible accident with a childhood friend, York and three other boys were sentenced to prison. All at the ages of about 15-17 years old. Three boys walked away from prison including York, and have all three been carrying the guilt of their friend's untimely death, not likely to ever forget it. Trying to move on from that awful era in his life, York got an education, a degree, and a job for himself so he could dedicate his life to becoming a better man. Fifteen years spent in prison set him behind the times quite a bit, but with his commitment to his own life, he has progressed thus far. One day, after the discovery of magic, York found Binode Labs and was interested in their procedures. He consented to the replacement of his own, human arm, with a bionic one and has now been trying to learn about life as a cyborg. Not to mention, the arm weilds strange powers. These abilities confuse and excite him, but in a way, also frighten him. Departing from his life among non-magical humans, York sought out the community of World Train where he lives today as a mechanic.

*Skills: He learns quickly and is open to learning even more about several other subjects. Although, what intrigues him most are engines and the history of transportation before the development of teleportation. A lot of his interest goes into trains as well as cars, explaining his interest in WT. When it comes to manual labour such as repairs to machinery and electronics, York is the man to talk to. Even if something is out of his area of understanding, he does his best to apply the knowledge he has of other devices to the ones he doesn't quite know yet. Although, in addition to his more human-like skills, he has a bionic arm that wields abilities of it's own.

Abilities linked to Bionic Arm:

--
His arm, a Nu-Alpha production that was not authorized by Binode, deviated from the basic abilities other items from the line were given. He recalls his fellow subjects having abilities like fire-wielding, ice-wielding, super speed, super strength, and x-ray vision, to name a few. But the item that was given to York was one of dark matter, an ability that is rather unorthodox in the area of New Samine. Most of the abilities found throughout the area were not so dark-spirited. The scientist in charge of the development of York's prosthetic had gotten in touch with a chaotic entity behind the back of Binode, risking his job and also his life to try and harness this kind of power. His actions were questioned time and time again by York, asking why he would risk this just for a random Saminite.

"Magical ability is that of a personal commitment of mine." The doctor told York. "I want to see how this will change the world more than I want to keep my job."

Bold statements coming from a man who was risking his entire reputation just for the sake of the world's future. Little did he know the consequences of the rejection of Magic. The entire world would cast out those who had abilities, creating a whole new generation of social pariahs. This served as a sort of ironic, devastating turn of events for Binode's inner dynamic a whole. Regardless, the magic given to York was something that he still, to this day, questions.
The ability York wields is that of Darkness Manipulation. A crystal is embedded into the inside shaft of the bicep. The crystal has a ripe purple colour that has a distinct cold touch, and can be felt through the chilled metal on his upper arm. Feeling the eminating temperature has become that of a bored tick of York's. The crystal itself was given to the scientist by the entity that had granted him the understanding of the chaotic, magical forces that are held within darkness manipulation. The contract that binds the doctor contains a strict agreement that is unfortunate for him, but the contract also includes that York's involvement in the magic must also be regulated. Summarized, the way that York is to handle his abilities is by means of peculiar, black tentacles that are sentient and bizarrely black in pigment. The consequence itself doesn't sound half bad, but on the contrary. Debilitating headaches and occasional lapses of consciousness cause York's life to be interrupted by the chaotic entity. These added side-effects are due to the amount of energy the crystal sucks away from York each day, and even more so when he uses these abilities. He refrains from doing so until a matter of life and death or any such circumstances arises.

Some limitation added to this skill set is his range only goes to about 8 feet, and with this, a limit on how long his tentacles can be used is also important. Usually, it takes around 20 or so minutes for his energy to run out while using them. Although dark magic is powerful in its own respect, it does take a lot of effort out of it's living host to weild it's abilities. He has reported his tentacles to almost be sentient in that they draw from him independent from his will. Of course, with more focus and concentration, the quicker he feels tired, but he tends to feel sick regardless of how much work he puts into them.

*Weaknesses
: After a spill he took when he was incarcerated, York received a fractured tibia and knee cap that still aches to this day. He often jokes that he should have gotten a bionic leg instead of an arm. Strong smells are a bit of a pet peeve of his, probably due to the migraines he has throughout the day, which also causes him to be sensitive to light as well. The headaches are definitely a weak spot for him, among nosebleeds and losses of conciousness on occasion. Luckily the causes of these fits have been narrowed down to extreme stress and sleep deprivation, and when he becomes angry.

With his tentacles, while threats are available to remain out of his limited range, he has to make sure that he can handle the threat at hand. The tentacles may be very strong, but with his lack of experience in handling them (considering he refrains from exercising his abilities as much as possible, due to the dark nature of it.) he must understand the kind of abilities his opponent may have in order to control his power more.

*Stats:
            Health:110
            Magic: 85
            Attack: 85
            Defense: 150
            Speed: 70

>Just as a small explanation for his high defense, he mostly tries to avoid physicality and leans toward more preemptive and defensive attacks, which he has gotten good at. This is a reflection of his time spent in prison, and because of the offensive nature of many of the men he did his time with, he has had enough time to hone those abilities to become veyr good at apprehending any sort of phsyical confrontation. This skill has also been shaped in hopes of keeping his dark magic at bay. If an altercation becomes apparent to him, he tries to avoid itin order to prevent his tentacles from becoming another element in the mix.

Weapons: The harsh, stiff metal of his arm creates a lasting and devastating impact when used as a blunt object. In other words, his bionic arm packs quite the punch. This is normally the fighting technique that York uses, using his fists tends to be more familiar although it is arguably more sloppy and personal. In addition to his humanistic abilities, save for the bionic arm, the tentacles that his abilities provide are strange and distracting in nature during battle. They reflect no light, and create a deep and ominious shadow when used in full force.
    Behavior of the Tentacles:
There are two categories that his tentacles have. Combattive and Practical. When York is in a fight, the tentacles grow in width and give off a strange odor, much like burning wood. Slightly pleasant, but also very distinct. They can fill a room within instants, creating a cumbersome shroud over everything that creates a perfect time for York to ambush his contender. Although this is advantageous, he is not equipped yet with the right ability to manipulate the darkness in such a way to allow him to see his enemies among his created void. York knows that he can feel slight vibrations throughout the room the tentacles cover it, but the feeling is so soft that to detect exactly where his enemy is would take too much concentration. He is still trying to understand the combattive personality of his tentacles. The more familiar of these appendages is the practical use, one he can use on occasion and in small doses to fetch things from up high or to help him climb places quickly. When used practically, they don't release the scent and nor do they shroud the objects they touch with shadow.

Items:
A bag full of odds and ends. Mostly books, clothes, gadgets, the like.
One gadget he likes is a very old-timey Pocket Computer, or what most know as a PDA. He plays on it from time to time, usually doing that if he doesn't have anything else to do. Occasionally he tinkers with basic robotics and electronic wiring that he also keeps in his bag.

MiscFacts: York loves to play guitar, although he forbids anyone from hearing his singing voice. It's not that flattering, but music does soothe him among his interest in cars and technology. He also has a soft spot for animals, but caring for them has resulted slightly silly in the past and he's had to give them away.

Relationships: A deeply emotional relationship before he boarded the World Train was left as a mutual break up between the two of them. It was mostly as necessity, but York still thinks about her from time to time, but he mostly stays away from romance for the most part. If it comes, it comes.

*RP Sample:

The first morning back home was a rough one.
Prison had an effect on York in a way that he wished it hadn't. It made him fold inward on himself. Or maybe it was having to constantly be reminded, every day he was in that damn place, what he was responsible for. The memory of Franny that night and how the wind was slowly picking up, making the area around the campfire so cold, it choked him. First he had nightmares about it, but soon it just became inner scarring. But when he returned home, it all seemed like he had to face the night again.
Turning over on the couch in the midst of an empty apartment, the sun stretched out across the generic, rather plain carpet in the living room. Radiant beams of morning sun illuminated the room, casting a fresh kind of filter over each object from his couch to the opposite wall. It was a wonder this was even rented out to him, considering the Mudden district seemed fairly nice now. It was amazing how he, an ex con, could get a decent apartment the day he returned home from being locked up. Figuring that now was as good a time as any, he leaned up and stretched, groaning a yawn out.
"York," A rapping came to his door, an elderly voice calling to him. Sneering, York found it annoying that the very moment he woke up, there was someone at his door. "Open up, lazy ass." A chuckle followed shortly after. It was his new lanlord, one that he only met yesterday when he arrived here right after his release. Now he was using playful insults, which that too annoyed York. Shrugging it off, he pulled open his door and gazed out through narrowed eyes.
"Well I know I'm ugly but you don't have to squint."
"Dude," York sighed. "What do you want?"
"I just made some phonecalls for ya, buddy! Got you a job as an automechanic down at that ol' shop, by the grocery store?" York appreciated the gesture. But why? He blinked once, quietly (somewhat hesitantly) letting the old man in. His name was Jovani. No ethnic heritage at all, just a regular caucasian man with a foreign name. He waddled in, grinning like an idiot at the young man in the doorway.
"Alright, why? I mean, you're a lanlord, not a social worker." York snickered, a wrinkle coming to the old man's brow.
"Bullshit, I'm as charitable as any guy." He huffed, scoffing at the younger man in front of him. "Alright, fine. Your dad called. Didn't know who the blazes he was at first, but he seemed a decent guy. So I uh... I made some calls." He shruggled, standing quietly as York tried to process why his father would do that. Of course, Timothy, York's father, had always loved York very much. His first son who, despite all the trouble he caused, were very close to each other. But what confused York was why his father tolerated him and made provisions for him even after all the pain he caused him. It could be compensation, but York was touched, regardless. Ushering the round man from his apartment, York rubbed his face. Considering he felt he had nothing better to do, he supposed he would go follow up on that job.
